Whitley Penn’s Lunch Buddies Program has received HLB International’s Innovation Award.

This award recognizes those who not only embrace innovative thinking, but also cultivate an environment that encourages creativity and forward-thinking practices.

Lunch Buddies was introduced in 2022 to enhance employee connections and foster a sense of community. Employees voluntarily sign-up at the beginning of each month to be randomly paired with a coworker to go to lunch with to further enable relationship development, and cross-departmental education.  The firm’s management committee approved the initiative and related expenses and continues to support it due to the program’s success.

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” stated Matthew Reiter, Partner-in-Charge of Audit, and Member of the Firm’s Management Committee. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all who helped make it a success, including the participants. We look forward to supporting the program as it continues to grow and evolve.”

The idea of the Lunch Buddies program came from Kendall Jones, Marketing Manager at Whitley Penn. As a marketing professional, Jones has the liberty of working with people across all functions of the business at varying levels of experience. Her idea was to provide an opportunity for others to do the same: build their network internally while learning more about the firm as a whole.

Jones has led the program since its inception and has solicited feedback from the participants to modify and further develop the program. “To see Lunch Buddies succeed and be recognized as an award-winning program in two short years is remarkable,” stated Jones. “I am incredibly grateful to all who have championed and participated in the program. I am confident that the program will continue to have a positive impact on firm employees for years to come.”
