Update as of 04/03/2025:

Of our picks above, seven made the Sweet Sixteen (Auburn, Duke, Florida, Houston, Maryland, Tennessee, and Texas Tech). Six made the Elite Eight (Auburn, Duke, Florida, Houston, Tennessee, and Texas Tech) and four made the Final Four (Auburn, Duke, Florida, and Houston).

Duke enters the tournament as the statistical favorite, boasting KenPom dominance and favorable Vegas odds, their youth and inexperience present challenges. With an average starting age of 19.4 and a third-year head coach, Jon Scheyer, at just 37 years old, they deviate from the typical championship profile. Florida, though slightly more seasoned, also skews younger with a starting five averaging 20.4 years and a head coach, Todd Golden, who is 39 with limited head coaching experience. Auburn, despite its veteran presence, faces historical odds as only six No. 1 overall seeds have won the championship since 1985.

Our Digital Services team’s bold take is that Houston epitomizes the traditional championship formula.

Their starting lineup, composed entirely of sophomores and above, averages 21 years—the closest of the Final Four teams to the historical norm of 21.8 years. Adding to their advantage, head coach Kelvin Sampson brings 46 years of coaching experience across college and professional levels. With a veteran roster on the court and seasoned guidance on the sideline, Houston stands as the team most aligned with what history has shown to be the winning recipe.
