Larry Autrey Named Texas Tech University Lyons School of Accounting 2024 Distinguished Alumnus

Larry Autrey, Whitley Penn Managing Partner & CEO, has been named the 2024 Lyons School of Accounting Distinguished Alumnus.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented each year to the most prestigious graduates of Texas Tech University for their professional achievements, contributions to society and support of the university. The purpose of the Distinguished Alumni Award is to recognize and honor alumni who have made significant contributions toward furthering the excellence of Texas Tech University through outstanding accomplishments, careers and/or through extraordinary levels of service.
“Being recognized as the Lyons School of Accounting Distinguished Alumnus is truly an honor,” said Autrey. “This recognition is a testament to the incredible education and support I received at Texas Tech, which has been foundational to my personal and professional success. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped my journey, and I look forward to continuing to uphold the values and excellence that Texas Tech embodies.”
Autrey has more than 30 years of tax, advisory and business valuation experience focused on public and private clients. He has served as the CEO and Managing Partner for Whitley Penn for more than 20 years. Through his leadership, the firm has grown to near 900 employees with nine offices throughout Texas and New Mexico.
Autrey was formerly on the Cook Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees, the Texas Land Conservancy Board, a Former Board Member for the Community Enrichment Center, and was a Former Chairman for the Community Foundation of North Texas. He is the Former Chairman of the Board and Former Vice Chairman for the ACH Child & Family Services Foundation, Former National Advisory Board Member for BBVA Compass, Former Chairman of the Tarrant County United Way – Alexis de Tocqueville Society, Former Chairman of the Fort Worth Chapter Young Presidents Organization, Former Chairman of The Bridge Youth Shelter, a Former Chairman of the World President’s Organization and is a Former Board Member & Assistant Treasurer for the Child Study Center of Fort Worth among many other Board roles for non-profits in the areas of land conservation, children’s advocacy groups and the organizations supporting health and the arts to name a few.
Within the accounting profession, Autrey is the former Day Chairman for the Major Firms Group, former Global Board Member for Nexia International, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and a member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA).
Autrey earned his B.B.A in Accounting and Finance from Texas Tech University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Data Analytics from Abilene Christian University.
