Brian Starr Named Trustee for Sam Houston University Foundation

Brian Starr, Whitley Penn Audit Partner, has been named to the Sam Houston University Foundation Board of Trustees.

Starr has more than 20 years of audit and assurance experience working with public and private companies. He is a trusted business advisor and consultant for clients in industries such as energy, manufacturing and distribution, oilfield services, software development and sales, real estate and construction and private equity investment companies. He is also the Leader for the firm’s Houston office Audit Practice. In this role, he is instrumental in recruiting talent for the firm and mentoring young professionals as they join the team.

“It is an honor to be named a trustee of the Sam Houston University Foundation,” stated Starr. “I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to a community that has given so much to me. I look forward to working alongside many other like-minded professionals as we invest in the future of Sam Houston State University.”

Starr graduated magna cum laude with a B.B.A. in Accounting from Sam Houston State University in 2002. As a proud Bearkat, he serves on the College of Business Advisory Council and as President-Elect of the Alumni Association for the University.  Starr is also a letterman from the 2001 Southland Conference champion Bearkat Football Team and remains connected to the Athletic Department by mentoring student-athletes and creating opportunities for them to engage with successful SHSU alumni as they prepare for next steps after college.

Starr is passionate about serving the community and does so through his position as a director for the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA in Houston, and his involvement with both the Houston Energy Finance Group and the Secured Finance Network. Professionally, Starr is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Texas Society and Houston Chapter of Certified Public Accountants (TXCPA Houston).
